MEXICO CITY – Needless to say, Henry Martin has taken to his new surroundings at Club America quite nicely.

The forward, who joined the Aguilas from Club Tijuana in December, has five goals through five rounds of 2018 Liga MX Clausura play following his hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-1 win over visiting Lobos BUAP.

“It was an exciting moment,” said Martin, who has already set a career high for goals scored in a single Liga MX season. “I give thanks to all my teammates. Their passes and movements help me. I’m only here to push the ball forward.”

As the current top Mexican scorer in Liga MX, Martin has his sights on overtaking Djaniny Tavares’ six goals with Santos Laguna for the overall league lead.

“At first it looked to be too far off,” the 25-year-old commented. “Djaniny already had some goals, six, but now I’m not so sure. Yes, I do think about it.”

Martin embraces the responsibility of wearing the jersey of the 12-time Mexican and seven-time CONCACAF champion.

“It is the biggest commitment that I have,” he finished. “I want to do things well on the field. The competition is difficult, but I am responding.”

Club America and Martin will open their 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League campaign in the round of 16 against host Saprissa on February 21 in Tibas, San Jose, Costa Rica.
