Mexico, Belgium drive to 3-3 draw; Lozano nets brace

BRUSSELS, Belgium – Hirving Lozano scored two goals and visiting Mexico played Belgium to a 3-3 draw in an international friendly on Friday at the Stade Roi Baudouin.

The PSV Eindhoven star’s goal haul was equaled by 24-year-old Romelu Lukaku, who now has tallied 30 times to join Paul van Himst and Bernard Voorhoof atop the all-time Belgian scoring chart.

After Eden Hazard gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute, Javier Hernandez was taken down in the box and Andres Guardado leveled with 38th-minute penalty kick.

Lukaku bundled in with his thigh to restore the host’s advantage 10 minutes into the second half, but then Lozano went to work.

One minute later, the 22-year-old, did well to bring down a high ball with his right foot and shoot brilliantly inside the left post from 18-yards out.

Lozano put the Tricolor ahead in the 60th minute, volleying home venomously – again from 18 yards – the rebound of his initial effort that was denied by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The equalizer came in the 70th minute, when Lukaku beat sprawling Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to Dries Mertens’ low cross from the right side of the box.

Next up for Mexico is another friendly at fellow 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier Poland.
